Italian Cooperation in the country
Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the priority countries for the Italian Cooperation intervention. As highlighted in the 2016-2018 Triennal Programming Document, instability at political level remains a fundamental cause of fragility, given the particular political and social characteristics of the country, which faces evident difficulties in consolidating the process of
approaching Europe, which- in turn - has repercussions on the whole region.
In addition to responding to the geographical priority, the various initiative fit in supporting the institutional reforms that the Bosnian government is called to put in place for the continuation of the accession negotiations with the European Union and for the adoption of the acquis communautaire, as confirmed in the Annex 1 of the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPAII), Indicative Strategy Paper for Bosnia and Herzegovina (2014-2020) - revised 2017 version
Strategic development document in the country
Strategic development document in the country: The strategic document is being prepared. Will be ready by mid 2018.
The Italian strategy and the areas of intervention
With the inclusion of Bosnia and Herzegovina among the countries of first priority, the dialogue with the central administrations and administrative entities has been reconstructed which allows Italian cooperation to play a key role by creating new forms of commitment and new incentives for the state institutions to improve. Considering that the slow process of approximation to the European legislation constitutes the perimeter of the international action, Italy follows in particular some sectors among which stand out: The sector of the rural economy, the support to the Civil Protection the eco-sustainable tourism and the defense human rights and democracy.
Alignment with the local government strategy and harmonization with donor community interventions

What is it spent for?
The purpose/sector of destination of a bilateral contribution should be selected by answering the question “which specific area of the recipient’s economic or social structure is the transfer intended to foster”. The sector classification does not refer to the type of goods or services provided by the donor. Sector specific education or research activities (e.g. agricultural education) or construction of infrastructure (e.g. agricultural storage) should be reported under the sector to which they are directed, not under education, construction, etc. read more close

By means of?
The typology identifies the modalities that are used in aid delivery. It classifies transfers from the donor to the first recipient of funds (e.g. the recipient country, a multilateral organisation, or a basket fund). It does not track the end uses of the funds, which is addressed in the sector classification and to some extent through the policy objective markers. read more close
