Description
The Ocupamoz project, spanning 36 months, aims to address the economic and social challenges in the city of Beira, Sofala Province, Mozambique, through a series of actions focused on the employment inclusion of youth, women, and people with disabilities, and the strengthening and creation of enterprises. The initial needs analysis highlighted the main challenges and difficulties in the context of intervention: i) the difficulty of accessing the formal labor market due to a lack of specific skills among youth, women, and people with disabilities; ii) the shortage of qualified labour for local enterprises; iii) the lack of skills, resources, and networking necessary to start and grow entrepreneurial activities. To respond to these needs and challenges, the initiative aims to ensure high-quality technical and vocational training for dignified employment, and to promote inclusive economic growth and work for all women and men, including youth and people with disabilities; goals that align with the targets of Sustainable Development Goals 4.3 and 4.4, 8.5 and 8.6. To achieve these objectives and contribute to the attainment of the 2030 Agenda goals, this initiative aims to achieve three complementary results: on one hand, providing the target beneficiaries (youth, women, and people with disabilities) with the professional skills required in the labour market; on the other hand, strengthening local MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) and supporting the creation of new startups to foster job creation. The first result focuses on the acquisition of basic professional skills by young women and people with disabilities in vulnerable conditions, through courses aimed at job placement. Training activities are planned for 600 beneficiaries, including soft skills for work and professional hard skills such as basic ICT (use of the Office suite), financial literacy, basic English, and customer service training; scholarships will also be awarded to 100 beneficiaries at local vocational schools. The second result aims to specialise 200 beneficiaries in business management, ICT, and logistics and transport, sectors identified as strategic in the context of the city of Beira. The training activities will provide specialised training to meet the demand for highly qualified labour from local enterprises. The courses will be developed in collaboration with local universities and enterprises, ensuring that the training meets labour market needs. Internships will also be funded to improve the skills and employment prospects of the beneficiaries. Finally, the third result aims to create new jobs through the incubation and acceleration of startups and MPMI. This result intends to stimulate innovation and support the development of local entrepreneurship in business management, ICT, and the logistics and transport sector. The project will implement incubation and acceleration pathways for startups and MPMI, providing the skills, resources, and networking necessary to start and grow entrepreneurial activities. To support gender equality, the project includes targeted recruitment strategies to ensure female participation, with at least 50% of beneficiaries for each activity being women. To support the inclusion of beneficiaries with disabilities and raise awareness among enterprises about employing people with disabilities, the involvement of local disability associations is planned for consultations and the design of solutions
