Description

The 36-month initiative is aimed at supporting the planning of integrated and community development of the coasts, in a Blue Economy perspective, through technical assistance to local authorities, training of public and private operators in technological and organisational innovation, and the implementation of pilot projects that, by including both structural and organisational and technological innovations, present themselves as models for a sustainable system of integrated and community-based development that can be replicated and is capable of combining the different opportunities for land protection that can be achieved mainly through artisanal fishing, but also through synergic activities for alternative income generation, such as conservation agriculture and sustainable tourism in the coastal area. This will be done through the improvement of integrated multi-sectoral planning and management capacities, the improvement of capacities for the production, conservation, distribution and marketing of fish products, the improvement of integrated and multi-sectoral production capacities, and the adoption of shared and replicable horizontal and vertical development and scaling-up plans for the country's other coastal areas. Direct beneficiaries of the initiative are the regular fishermen and fisherwomen organised in cooperatives in the fishing areas of La Unión, Puerto El Triunfo/Bahía de Jiquilisco and Barra de Santiago (El Salvador), with a particular focus on improving women's capacities to access technological and management innovation, development opportunities and available funding, including the funds within the initiative itself. read more close
