Description

The proposal aims to promote inclusive and sustainable development of the agrifood system in disadvantaged areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina by revitalizing native livestock breeds and enhancing the production and placement of products of animal origin. The initiative aims to support the protection of selected native breeds, including cattle, sheep and poultry, especially in disadvantaged areas with tourism potential, by safeguarding and valorizing local biodiversity and genetic heritage, while mitigating rural-to-urban migration. Revitalization of native breeds will involve adopting low-environmental-impact agronomic practices, improving production processes, and promoting sustainable rural tourism such as agritourism and local markets. The initiative will support ministerial institutions by enhancing their capacity to develop appropriate programs for the preservation and registration of native breeds and related production and marketing protocols, including the improvement of the health and welfare conditions of livestock. Local producers and operators in the agrifood sector will be engaged on the advancement of livestock production and products’ valorization, also by intertwining those activities related to multifunction of agriculture, like tourism. The initiative aims, in the long-term, to improve economic conditions and support sustainable growth and resilience of rural areas, thus slowing down degradation and depopulation of disadvantaged regions. read more close
