Description

The initiative aims to support the creation of decent jobs, particularly of women (min. 50%) and young people, enabling the flow of talent, thanks also to a possible involvement of Italian excellence, useful to boost the development of the tourism sector and its collateral activities/services (culture, handicrafts, typical local products, transportation, etc.). The initiative will help provide answers to the growing employment demand of the approximately 2 million new young people who aspire to enter the labor market each year. Specifically, through a call for proposals worth 2.5 million euros addressed to CSOs present in the country, the project will provide training for skills development and capacity building in sectors with high employment potential (ecotourism, hospitality, conservation of natural heritage, enhancement of cultural and handicraft products - such as coffee, leather and the precious stones) and in the related tourism sector. Therefore, the initiative aims to increase employment in both existing enterprises and support the creation of new SMEs. Gender-balanced engagement, a public-private approach, and substantial support for innovation and digitization will be ensured. Target groups include women and young people involved in the various production areas mentioned above, as well as government staff who will benefit from management and organizational training courses. The initiative will be closely linked to the recently approved project (AID 012824), implemented by the Ethiopian Ministry of Labor and Skills (MoLS). The MoLS initiative is including a soft loan component (10MEUR, AID 012824/01/1) for the establishment of a Skill Park, a Center of Excellence for Fashion and Design, and a Training Restaurant in Addis Ababa in addition to a business incubator in the city of Jimma. In addition, the grant component (2MEUR, AID 012824/01/0) of the same MoLS project will support vocational training and SME promotion activities in strong synergy and complementarity with the initiative in the subject. The same complementarity will be established with a project recently presented by UNIDO (UNIDO code ID220032, AID 012824/01/2) which will provide technical assistance to the aforementioned MoLS project, aimed at improving the supply of technical-entrepreneurial services to young people and women, for the development of innovative businesses. Finally, the initiative is synergistic with the project proposal recently submitted to AICS Ethiopia by the Municipality of Jimma and aimed at mitigating the effects of human presence on the environment through the environmental recovery of an area of the city. The synergies concern in particular the development of local SMEs in environmental and natural resources sector management sector, as also highlighted in the attached letters of the Municipality of Jimma and the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance (MoF). read more close
