Description

This initiative aims to support decent job creation by enabling the flow of skills, also involving Italian excellences, for improving production processes to respond to the demand for employment of the approximately 2 million new young people who annually aspire to enter the job market. In particular, the initiative foresees the realization of training facilities/infrastructures, skills development and capacity building in most relevant Ethiopian sectors (coffee, leather, design and innovation, cultural and craftsmanship products valorization - such as gemstone and others, hospitality, eco-tourism and natural resource management, heritage conservation). Therefore, the initiative is aimed at increasing employment in already existing enterprises and supporting the creation of MSMEs. A gender-balanced engagement and a public-private approach will be ensured. Target groups will be youth (min. 50% F) and women involved in the different sectors mentioned above. In addition, Governmental staff, at Federal, Regional and City level, will benefit of management and organizational trainings. The 10 MEUR Soft Loan will support infrastructural interventions for the creation of a Skills Park, a Centre of Excellence for Fashion and Design and a Training Restaurant in Addis Ababa, and an enterprise Incubator/Hub in Jimma. It will be complemented by a 2 MEUR grant, through which skill training and MSMEs promotion activities realized at different level will be financed. Synergies will be created, through the involvement of the CSOs, with another project aimed at developing employment in tourism and related activities. Finally, the initiative will be closely linked to a project proposed to AICS Addis Ababa by the Municipality of Jimma, aimed at mitigating the effects of human presence on the environment, consequently increasing job and business opportunities in the environmental management and valorization. read more close
