Description

The Project to Support the Strengthening of Resilience, Protection and Participation of Women and Girls in the Senegal-Mali Border Areas aims to contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 5 and 16, through the improvement of the protection and participation of women and girls in decision-making processes. The specific objective aims to consolidate peace and the elimination of gender-based violence in order to strengthen the social, legal and economic empowerment of women in the border area between Senegal and Mali. This is in line with the priorities of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework with the governments of Senegal and Mali, the humanitarian-peace-development nexus and UN Security Council Resolution 1325. To achieve the project objective, the intervention plans to i) empower women and adolescent girls, particularly those subject to multiple discrimination (displaced, disabled, HIV-infected, returnees, migrants, survivors of violence, etc.); ii) foster a holistic approach by engaging men and local communities to protect 1,500 women and girls from gender-based violence and harmful practices; iii) strengthen the leadership and participation of women and youth for conflict prevention and peace building in conflict and border areas. read more close
