Description

In line with SDG4, the Overall Objective of the three-year project is to “Contribute to reduce inequalities in accessing primary education and reduce dropout among children at risk of social exclusion and educational poverty in Lebanon”, through the provision of integrated education, child protection and livelihoods assistance to vulnerable households. This complementary and holistic programmatic approach will tackle the multiple barriers to education faced by both refugee and non-refugee children, caused by the complex needs of families living in Lebanon during this critical time of economic, social, and political crisis. The project will target both out-of-school children or children at risk of drop-out from formal education. Building upon the technical expertise and long-lasting experience of Terre des Hommes Italia (TDH IT), COSPE, Ana Aqra and LLWB, the project will specifically address SDG target 4.5, by aiming at eliminating gender disparities in education and ensuring equal access to both formal and non-formal education for children in vulnerable situations, including children with disabilities. The project promotes access to quality and inclusive education through achieving the following results: R1) Vulnerable boys and girls excluded from school or at risk of drop out acquire the necessary skills to enter and/or remain in the school system. R2) The educational community (school staff, educators, parents and community members) acquires and uses all the necessary skills to facilitate children’s access to Formal and Non-Formal Education and to mitigate the risks of drop out. R3) Mothers of children excluded from education and/or at risk of drop-out belonging to economically vulnerable families are able to build paths towards economic empowerment and social inclusion and improve their opportunities for access income. The project will be implemented in two vulnerable areas in Mount Lebanon governorate, more specifically in Souk al Ghareb (Aley District) and Jbeil (Jbeil District), where high number of Syrian refugees are resettled both in urban areas and in informal gatherings. The project will directly benefit 5.742 individuals (direct beneficiaries) and indirectly benefit, among others, the whole population of the two target communities (amounting to approximately 200.000 people – 181.000 inJbeil and 27.700 in Souk El Ghareb). read more close
