Description
With the aim of reducing maternal, neonatal and U5 mortality, particularly related to malnutrition in the South Omo Zone, the project focuses on 2 key health facilities:Jinka Hospital, that despite being the Zonal referral hospital only provides services for the population of Jinka Town and 3 surronding woreda; Turmi Health Centre, located in Hamer woreda and providing services for the population of 3 woreda in the south of the SOZ. The quality improvement in Jinka Hospital should in turn promote an overall quality improvement at zonal level through the involvment of woreda and zonal health authorities in capacity building and on job training at Jinka Hospital level. In Hamer woreda, the project foresees a specific support to access to quality health services at the three levels of care (HC, health posts and communities). The project, therefore, aims to increase access to quality maternal, neonatal and U5 health services, including nutritional services, at Jinka District Hospital (OS 1) and in Hamer woreda (OS2). In order to improve quality (RA 1.1 and 2.1) of health and nutritional care, the project foreseen training, supervision and mentoring of health and community staff, introduction of quality improvement plans, rehabilitation of health facilities, supply of medicines, consumable and equipment. The project will introduce the concepts of Early Child Development to promote cognitive stimulation coupled with nutritional services (through training of health and community staff, creation of ECD corners, caregiver awareness. To increase access of the most vulnerable population to health services (RA 1.2 and 2.2), the project will provide support to the referral system by ambulance, outreaches, support for waiting houses, involvment of schools (teacher training, awareness and protection) and communities (community mobilization, sensitization). Through technical assistance, training, supervision and the creation of a monitoring and review committees the project will promote the local health authorities management capacities (RA 1.3 and 2.3), ensuring sustainability to the action.The project convey the expertise of CUAMM (health and nutrition), CIAI (protection) and CSB (Early Child Development).
