Description

The initiative aims to respond to the protracted humanitarian crisis affecting the Sahrawi refugee population through a 24-month multi-sectoral intervention worth a total of €2 million. It will be implemented under direct management by the AICS regional office in Tunis, with the participation of Civil Society Organizations selected through a Call for Proposals. Priority areas of intervention include access to water and sanitation, agriculture and food security, health and education. Activities aim to promote timely and equitable access to basic services and strengthen population resilience. Particular attention will be paid to promoting gender equality, both in design and implementation, through the socioeconomic empowerment of women, the integration of a gender perspective into education and health services, and support for the active participation of women and girls in community decision-making processes. Activities will also be designed to reduce gender inequalities and promote a more equitable and safer environment for all segments of the population. Direct beneficiaries will include women, men, girls, boys, children, girls, and people with disabilities, with a focus on those in situations of heightened vulnerability. The intervention will take place in the five refugee camps of Tindouf. Planned interventions include activities aimed at strengthening basic services, including education, social and health and water services, and improving the food security of the refugee population. Strengthening livelihoods and production capacities through the provision of inputs, equipment and training activities will also be promoted.
