The ‘RE-BUILD’ initiative is a project in line with the strategy of the Italian Cooperation in Jordan because it works on vocational training and employment support, with particular attention to the preservation and enhancement of the territory's cultural, tourist and archaeological heritage. This initiative fits into the context of sustainable tourism, recognising the economic and employment importance of this sector in Jordan. The project is coherent with SDGs 8 ‘Decent work and economic growth’ because it promotes the employment of young Jordanians in the construction, restoration and tourism sectors through training courses that enable beneficiaries to enter the Labour market either as wage earners or by setting up businesses/self-employment; the action is also in line with SDGs 4 ‘Quality education’, since it implements training by introducing know-how and concepts not present in Jordanian training courses (e.g. safety in the workplace). The initiative fits into a framework of an already fuelled crisis in the country and where companies require specific skills and/or specific technical services (site managers, digitalisation of construction sites, tour operators, etc.) that they do not find in the labour market; moreover, employment services do not have the skills and technical capacities to carry out a precise matching of labour supply and demand. The project aims, therefore, with the achievement of Result 1 (Young unemployed people at risk of emigration develop the necessary skills, including those on safety at work, to favour their employment in the building sector as employees and/or in the self-employment/creation of micro-enterprises - purpose code 11330 Vocational Training) to improve the skills of young unemployed people, also thanks to the training of trainers and the transfer of innovative technical know-how. In this way, it will be possible to improve the training by aligning it with the demands of local Italian companies operating in Jordan and requiring specific skills both technical and related to safety at work, ‘green’ approach (use of materials with low environmental impact, sustainable tourism, etc.) and expertise in restoration. In order to ensure proper learning, the beneficiaries will be able to put into practice the theoretical concepts learned in the training courses at the castle of Karak, which will act as a ‘building Allegato 2_Modello Documento Unico di Progetto_DUP_Bando Promossi 2023 11 site school’; in this way, the action intends to respond to the ‘Culture’ marker by fostering the restoration and enhancement of the Jordanian ‘cultural heritage’, which will be able to produce a better valorisation of the country also for tourism purposes. In addition, activities are planned to support local NGO through training courses on technical topics (planning, administration, etc.). In addition, Result 2 (Self-employment and business creation promote job creation in the construction and tourism sectors with particular attention to sustainable tourism - purpose code 25030 Business Development Services) aims to promote entrepreneurship and self-employment mainly in the tourism sector, but also in the building sector (with self-employment in particular) thanks to specific training and mentoring paths that drive young people towards the creation of start-ups and also in the postcreation phase; here too there is a support component for local NGO. In both results there are meetings to foster the exchange of good practices between Italy and Jordan, to facilitate the matching of labour supply and demand to foster dialogue between relevant stakeholders and to promote collaboration between local and Italian companies in the building sector.
