The DO - Destination Beyond project, promoted by CIES in Mozambique, in collaboration with ESSOR and five local CSOs (Vilatours, Dambo, Hixikanwe, Sumburero and AMPDC), aims to foster durable, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, ensuring full and productive employment and decent work for young people and women in vulnerable situations in the provinces of Maputo, Inhambane and Sofala, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8. The specific objective of the project is to ensure equitable access to quality technical and vocational training and decent work for women and youth in vulnerable situations and persons with disabilities in the municipalities of Maputo, Beira and Vilankulo, supporting SDGs 4.3 and 8.5. The project addresses the lack of connection between actors in the vocational training sector, the social exclusion and unemployment of youth and women in suburban areas, and the high incidence of poverty through several integrated activities. The first expected result is the improvement of the capacities of public and private institutions in the inclusion of women and young people in vulnerable situations and people with disabilities in employment and vocational training services. This will be achieved through workshops on monitoring, evaluation and social inclusion, which will take place in Maputo, Beira and Vilankulo, training 90 technicians from local authorities and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) that are partners in the project. The training of these technicians will ensure an improvement in the quality of services offered, promoting an inclusive environment that is attentive to the needs of vulnerable people, contributing directly to SDGs 8.3. The second expected result is the increased access to qualified social and labour market information and guidance services for women and young people in vulnerable situations. Information desks will be opened and made operational in the three target cities, offering social and labour guidance to 9,000 users, facilitating their entry into the labour market and enhancing their individual capacities. This component aims to reduce inequalities and promote social inclusion, contributing directly to SDGs 4.3 and 8.6. The third expected result is an increase in vocational training, job placement and self-employment opportunities for women and young people in a vulnerable situation. Through vocational training courses and technical internships in traditional and non-traditional sectors, the project will train 710 young people, with an expected job integration rate of 60 per cent. In addition, the distribution of self-employment kits and support to local small entrepreneurs, including support to 390 self-employed persons and the incubation of 15 income-generating activities, will stimulate local economic growth and self-employment, promoting sustainable development (SDG 8.5). The creation of inter-institutional tables in each of the target cities will facilitate collaboration between various stakeholders, promoting synergies and shared strategies to improve the effectiveness of training and employment interventions. These inter-institutional tables, which will involve 30 technicians, will contribute to creating an ecosystem favourable to employability and entrepreneurship. The project also includes actions to raise awareness and inform the community about training and employment opportunities. Through community events and employability fairs, some 9,600 people will be actively involved, increasing awareness and access to available resources. In summary, the CIES project in Mozambique uses an integrated and multi-sectoral approach to address the challenges of youth and female unemployment, poverty and social exclusion, promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, and contributing significantly to the Sustainable Development Goals. read more close
