Description

The initiative, lasting 36 months, covers five municipalities in the department of Nyong et So'o, in the Centre region of Cameroon, where agriculture represents the main source of income for the population and the cultivated products form the basis of the diet for poor and rural families. The intervention aims to provide sustainable, innovative and adapted responses to the insufficiency of material and immaterial resources and the inadequacy Allegato 2_Modello Documento Unico di Progetto_DUP_Bando Promossi 2023 8 of incomes to ensure throughout the year a healthy, nutritious and sufficient diet for small producers and their families. In response to identified needs and problems, the intervention strategy, divided into three main results, is based on the four dimensions of food security aiming to: 1) Contribute to agricultural development, improving agricultural productivity and product quality, ensuring greater crops, stability and diversification of production and ensuring the sustainability of food production systems (food availability and stability) 2) Develop productive activities in the agro-industry by creating decent jobs, supporting entrepreneurial activities and increasing the incomes of small producers, thanks to the introduction of new conservation, transformation and marketing processes (access to food) 3) Improve basic nutrition and access to drinking water, by adapting health centres, training health personnel on the management of malnutrition and growth retardation, strengthening knowledge on hygiene, infant and child nutrition, food diversification and enrichment of basic foods (adequate utilization of food). 9,274 people will directly benefit from the initiative (67% women) including small producers, food processors, young entrepreneurs and agricultural innovators, local operators, healthcare personnel, children suffering from malnutrition or childhood anemia and community members. The intervention is presented in a temporary scope association composed by ARCS (leading partner) and CUMSE Foundation (partner). This consortium was created with the aim of capitalizing on skills, tools and working methodologies, enhancing the experience of ARCS in the field of sustainable agriculture, agribusiness, the construction of potable water systems and the expertise of CUMSE in the sectors of health and nutrition. To ensure the quality of the intervention, ARCS and CUMSE have included 4 high-level Italian partners in the partnership: Sapienza University of Rome - Department of Environmental Biology, for its expertise in the transition of African farmers' agricultural systems towards climate change adaptation and mitigation; a for-profit private sector organization, Az. Agr. Eredi Carioni Francesco S.a.s., with the aim of transferring skills regarding the management of innovative and sustainable agricultural entrepreneurship; ISF-MI, an association that brings its economic, management and marketing expertise to producers and supports the structuring of innovative enterprises in the food production and processing sector; an association representing the Diaspora in Italy (including the Cameroonian one), the Associazione Ingegneri Africani (AIA), which will provide qualified skills in the construction of water infrastructures for the improvement of hygienic-sanitary conditions. The local association ADD (operating in the intervention area for over 20 years and promoter of an agro-pastoral training centre) and the local NGO CIPCRE (with an expertise in the field of organic agriculture, structuring of a participatory system of product certification and legal issues relating to access to land) were also involved. read more close
