Description
The project aims to promote sustainable development in the Governorate of Thi Qar, Iraq, through the conservation and enhancement of archaeological sites, with a particular focus on the site of Eridu, and the tangible and intangible traditions of the Mada’in people. The proposed approach is olistic, comprising the protection and the valorization of culturale heritage for development goals. The initiative integrates support for the development of eco-tourism and local entrepreneurship associated with it. The intervention includes the construction of a new visitor center to improve accessibility and usability of the Eridu archaeological site and the opening of two new halls in the Marshes Museum of Nassiriyah to showcase local traditions, such as dances, songs, poetry, and crafts. In parallel, a capacity-building program will be implemented for the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage of the Thi Qar Governorate.
