Description

The project aims at promoting sustainable and inclusive development of the tourism sector that fosters full and productive employment and decent work, focusing particularly on youth, women, and vulnerable people. The project will be implemented by Italian Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) selected through a competitive call for proposal and in partnership with local partners, while the monitoring component will be managed by AICS Nairobi Regional Office. The primary geographical scope of the action will be Zanzibar Archipelago (Unguja and Pemba Islands). However, a component of the initiative will foresee linkages and synergies with selected training facilities on mainland Tanzania. Specific actions will be designed with the aim of strengthening the quality of technical education in the tourism and hospitality industry, entailing activities in terms of curriculum development, Training of Trainers (ToT) for faculty members and equipment and infrastructural support for training centers. Furthermore, a pivotal component of the intervention will be the creation of meaningful linkages with the private sector through private-public partnerships platforms, dual and apprenticeships schemes, including circular mobility between Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar Archipelago. The intervention will also leverage on the strong presence of the Italian companies in the HO.RE.CA industry based in Zanzibar. Finally, the capacity building of government authorities on sustainable tourism will promote a more responsible, sustainable and diversified sector. An inclusive and gender-sensitive approach will ensure that women and youth (15-35), especially the most vulnerable segment of the population, will have access to technical education training and employment opportunities. read more close
