Description

The "PEACE" project aims to strengthen the certified professional skills of young people, women, ex-combatants, and conflict victims in the Sucre and Bolivar departments through technical and managerial training and technical assistance pathways in sectors that respond to local labor market demand: cocoa, sesame, livestock and fish farming. The aim is to increase access to decent work and create self-employment opportunities within the framework of sustainable and inclusive territorial development. The project is structured around two interconnected and complementary axes. The first addresses the shortage of professional skills suited to demand and the consequent difficulty in obtaining stable and decent employment. It mainly targets producers, unemployed, or aspiring entrepreneurs. The adequacy of the training courses with respect to market needs and the potential of the identified sectors, as well as their compliance with sustainable technological innovations, is crucial. This necessitates innovating and adapting the relevant training curricula and, based on these, providing training to SENA trainers, also thanks to the expertise of organizations of Sistema Italia (R1). The second axis addresses the need to strengthen the competitiveness of SMEs and producers, improving productivity and marketing, and thus promoting job creation (R2). This component includes Integrated Technical Assistance, endowment funds for investments, support to production, professional internships in Italy, that will contribute to business development. "PEACE" aims to promote economic growth with positive impacts from both social and environmental perspectives. It seeks to help overcome gender barriers that limit women's and girls' access to vocational training and employment, improve social cohesion and support the consolidation of the peace process through the reintegration and reincorporation of ex-combatants who are signatories to the Peace Agreements. The technical-productive approach used will be that of Successional Agroforestry Systems (SAF), thus contributing to biodiversity preservation and climate change adaptation. The initiative, lasting 36 months, is coordinated by ICEI, an Italian NGO with extensive experience in integrated agroforestry systems, and features a broad partnership. Each involved organization will bring specific and significant added value: the intergovernmental organization IILA will be the technical reference for cocoa sector innovation; SENA, the Colombian public entity for vocational training, will play an essential role in training and technical assistance, thanks to its widespread presence in the territory and the strengthening it will benefit from in the initial stages of the project; ARN, the Agency for Reincorporation and Normalization, a public body in charge of strengthening the capacities, stabilization, and autonomy of ex-combatants who are signatories to the Peace Agreements, will foster the necessary cooperation to support the Total Peace Policy that the National Government proposes within the framework of the National Development Plan. Fundacion Hogar Juvenil will play a crucial role in strengthening organizations from a managerial and technical assistance standpoint. A systematization process at the conclusion of the experience will allow the capitalization of the collaboration between entities at various levels, both public and private, equipping SENA and ARN with methodological tools for the sustainability of the described integrated support system: the project will thus contribute to improving policies in the field of inclusive and sustainable development and to consolidating the peace process and social justice. read more close
