Description

The project "AGREE Malawi - Agroforestry for Resilient Management and Ecosystem Balance in Malawi" aims to address the multidimensional challenges faced by the rural districts of Chikwawa and Mwanza in southern Malawi. These challenges include deforestation, soil erosion, biodiversity loss, and climate change, which undermine food security and economic stability. The project adopts an integrated agroecological approach to develop sustainable and climate-resilient agroforestry systems. This seeks to enhance agricultural productivity, conserve biodiversity, improve natural resource management, and create economic opportunities for local communities. Special attention is given to vulnerable groups, such as women, youth, and persons with disabilities, to promote inclusivity and social justice. Aligned with Malawi's Vision 2063, the project contributes to improving agricultural productivity and sustainable resource management, fostering a transition towards a resilient and industrialized economy. Through collaborations with local institutions, universities, and communities, the initiative aims to build capacities, promote knowledge co-creation, and ensure long-term sustainability. read more close
