Description

This initiative aims to strengthen the resilience and organizational capacities of small and medium-sized farmers in Albania, improving their economic opportunities and positioning them as key players in agri-food supply chains. The overall objective is to enhance sustainable peri-urban and rural agri-food systems and the livelihoods of agricultural producers, while the specific goal is to strengthen the resilience of small and medium farmer organizations by improving income and market opportunities. The initiative focuses on various interconnected areas with the aim of strengthening producers’ Organizations to encourage the establishment of Common Market Organizations, thereby aligning with the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union. More specifically, the initiative seeks to: support agricultural policies and the training of officials from the Ministry and Municipalities; develop the productive potential of peri-urban areas to meet local food demand; promote efficient water resource use to increase productivity in irrigated agriculture, and encourage sustainable farming practices to meet the growing demand for organic products and protect ecosystems. The participatory methodology, combined with the broad knowledge and experience provided by the Italian System, intends to foster dialogue among the ministry, farmers, local administrators, and civil society. It provides growth opportunities, targeted technical assistance, and high-level training, incorporating best practices and expertise from Italy. This initiative represents a significant step toward more economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable agriculture in Albania, with a clear focus on inclusive development and participatory planning. read more close
