Description

The initiative aims to promote sustainable development and reduce socio-economic inequalities in Cartagena through a new tourism approach and the proper management, conservation, and valorisation of its cultural heritage. To achieve this objective, the project will offer technical assistance for the participatory formulation of public policies and will promote training courses for the sustainable management and valorisation of tourism and cultural heritage, involving public administration, the private sector, academia and civil society in Cartagena, particularly supporting the participation of women, young people and members of vulnerable communities in these processes. Moreover, the project will valorise the Italian experience in the field of restoration, working with the Department of Architecture and Design of the Politecnico di Torino and other Italian institutions specialised in conservation and restoration, by training restoration institutions and creating restoration and heritage management plans for the bastion of Santa Catalina (part of the wall of Cartagena, a UNESCO cultural heritage site) and the city's cathedral. Likewise, the project will implement restoration and heritage actions for the Santa Catalina Bastion and the Santa Catalina Cathedral. Finally, the project will promote the implementation of more sustainable tourism practices and new routes created in a participatory manner that contribute to the creation of decent working conditions for the inhabitants of Cartagena (especially the most vulnerable) and allow them to access the benefits of more responsible tourism. read more close
