Description

The project aims at supporting the National School Feeding Programme (NSFP), the largest social safety net for children in Jordan. The NSFP is led by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and provides nutritious snacks to vulnerable Jordanian and refugee children living in poverty pockets across the country. WFP provides financial, technical, and operational support to the NSFP. The initiative support in particular the component of “healthy school feeding model (HSFM)”. The proposed intervention would enable its expansion to refugee children in camps as a priority, given the reduced monthly food assistance and deteriorating food security situation in camps. The HSFM also includes a community approach to the food system in which production, processing and consumption are integrated, strengthening the local economy not only through the inclusion of local producers and traders, but also by creating income opportunities for refugee and Jordanian women. In this sense, the initiative also contributes to the economic emancipation of the women involved. read more close
