Description
The initiative, with a total budget of 4,000,000 euros, aims to improve the socioeconomic conditions of survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and to facilitate access to quality psychosocial and health services in Kenya. It is structured into three main components: 1. Bilateral Component (pursuant to Article 7), implemented by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) – 2,250,000 euro; 2. Component awarded through a call for proposals to civil society organizations (CSOs) – 1,500,000 euro; 3. Directly managed component by AICS Nairobi – 250,000 euro. The project will focus on five target counties: Kisumu, Mombasa, Kilifi, Busia and Nyeri. Its main goals include improving referral mechanisms for survivors of gender-based violence, promoting economic independence, and enhancing psychological support. The direct beneficiaries of the initiative will be survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, who will be able to access to an online directory of services, opportunities for economic empowerment, and psychological support. The initiative also aims to increase the number of trained personnel for psychosocial support at community level, in primary health care facilities, and through the government helpline (HAK) that provides support to survivors. Indirect beneficiaries of the intervention will be the authorities in the target counties due to the improved social and health services available and the introduction of mental health policies and protocols. Finally, the community as a whole will benefit from a more inclusive and gender-respectful environment through outreach activities.
