Description

The initiative aims to promote sustainable agricultural development and food security in the rural areas of Odessa Oblast, Ukraine, by strengthening the technical and organizational capacities of local farmers, breeders, and cooperatives. The project includes the distribution of agricultural and livestock inputs, the introduction of new technologies and sustainable irrigation systems, and support for the creation and consolidation of agricultural cooperatives. Technical training and direct assistance will be provided to approximately 6,000 farmers and breeders annually, with a particular focus on the involvement of women and vulnerable groups, such as large families or those headed by women. The project adopts a results-based approach with continuous monitoring to assess progress against the set objectives. Additionally, it includes an economic sustainability strategy based on the cost-recovery method, where beneficiaries contribute 70% of the costs of the inputs received. The recovered funds will be reinvested to expand the number of beneficiaries and strengthen the local market. The initiative also promotes environmental sustainability, with interventions aimed at improving the rational use of water resources and reducing the environmental impact of agricultural activities. Through a visibility plan, the initiative ensures transparency and the recognition of the Italian contribution in Ukraine, with communication activities targeted at various stakeholders, including local and international institutions, Ukrainian and Italian civil society, and international cooperation organizations. read more close
