Description

The initiative aims to support the design and establishment of a Mediterranean Center for Applied Arts within the spaces of the Santa Croce complex in the Medina of Tunis, which has previously undergone restoration work funded by the Italian cooperation. The initiative encourages the involvement of the local community and the activation of partnerships with actors from the Italian system. The initiative addresses the need to promote (i) a dynamic of participation and socio-cultural animation, particularly for the youth within the Medina, oriented towards the needs of inclusion, expression, and enhancement of the diverse realities of the social fabric of the neighborhood; as well as (ii) the strengthening of youth entrepreneurship in a high-potential sector that currently lacks guidance and support services, such as crafts. Considering the nature, location, and potential use of the spaces in question, it proposes the establishment of an integrated multifunctional center with a dual purpose: (i) a space for innovation and entrepreneurial development, through training, incubation, mentorship, and the provision of co-working infrastructures for start-ups and emerging businesses in the crafts and design sector; and (ii) a place for socio-cultural promotion and animation within the fabric of the Medina community.
