Description
The “Energy Transition in Municipal Buildings-TEEC” program aims to contribute to the pursuit of the ambitious objectives that Tunisia has set in terms of sustainable economic development and energy transition. The Programme, with a financial allocation of 8.5 million euros, is part of the financial availability provided on the bilateral channel by the Italian-Tunisian Memorandum of Understanding 2021-2023 (article 4.1) for the energy transition for a share of 2 million euros, whereas the remaining share of 6.5 million euros comes from the 2017-2020 MoU (article 2) for local development. The initiative aims to contribute to the mitigation of climate change and to the fulfilment of Tunisia's international commitments as set out in the latest NDC to reduce climate-changing emissions (2022). Through the installation of photovoltaic panels on approximately 1000 municipal buildings to produce 7 MW of energy from renewable sources, the project contributes to increase Tunisian municipalities' access to clean and low-cost energy and to developing and strengthening the role and skills of local communities as actors in the country's sustainable development dynamics. The initiative will develop over three years and the implementing body is the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME) of the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Energy Transition.
