Description

The Initiative aims to promote integrated action to prevent and respond to food and nutrition emergencies affecting the most vulnerable sections of the population (refugees, internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities) affected by the complex humanitarian crises underway in the Tahoua Region of Niger. Activities will be aimed at responding to urgent needs in terms of immediate food assistance, while supporting the improvement of the food security of populations in the short to medium term, by increasing their capacity to respond to shocks, such as floods. The intervention, carried out through a particular focus on gender equality and women's autonomy, aims to promote the socio-economic re/integration of the categories of the population most at risk, through professional training and skills strengthening, in order to promote empowerment at the individual, family and community level, through the launch of income-generating activities and innovative community entrepreneurship in the agro-forestry-pastoral and fishing sectors, thus contributing to the improvement of social cohesion. In particular, the program - formulated in coordination with local authorities and other international humanitarian actors - will focus on the following sectors: Agriculture and Food Security and Nutritional Health, adopting an integrated multisectoral approach, which is coherent with other Italian-funded programs active in the Region in the Rural Development sector, according to the Nexus approach. The main cross-cutting themes of the Initiative are: Protection; Gender Equality; Protection and inclusion of people with disabilities and minors; Water, Sanitation, Environment, Territory, Natural Resources Management, Climate Change. read more close
