Description

The project aims to improve food security for the populations of the municipalities of Bouza, Karofane and Madaoua in the Tahoua region. The intervention will support agro-pastoral livelihoods and food systems, through the development of climate-smart agriculture and the support of agri-food value chains. The restoration of degraded lands and their development will allow young families, particularly those with women in charge, to have better productive assets. Support for off-season crops and processing and marketing activities will allow families to increase their income and resilience. Support for agricultural production in the intervention area will be accompanied by participatory and equitable management of natural resources shared with pastoral activities. Livestock farming, especially small ruminants, is essential to the economy of local families and also of transhumant shepherds who pass through the region every year, which is why the project will support veterinary health and respect for passage corridors. To improve the resilience of agro-pastoral systems, risk and disaster management (drought and floods) will be part of the initiative, the development of producer capacities through agro-pastoral school camps. Producer organisations and small and medium-sized enterprises in the cassava, sweet potato and potato value chains will be strengthened in their technical and management capacities and supported in the implementation of their business plans. In addition, particular attention will be paid to ensuring that, in the implementation of the planned activities aimed at achieving the different results and objectives, a gender perspective is adopted and specific measures aimed at the empowerment of women and young women are implemented. read more close
