Description
The initiative aims to support the massive restoration work to preserve the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher and the creation of the Terra Sancta Museum at St. Savior's Convent. Both activities are focused on the enhancement of a universal heritage, with a history dating back thousands of years, evidenced by a dense archaeological stratification that connects East and West and represents the beating heart of the Old City of Jerusalem, a landmark, not only spiritual, for a multitude of denominations. The project aims to make the country's richness even more evident by fostering cultural exchange and at the same time leveraging a form of sustainable tourism as a vehicle for tolerance and ethical development of the local economy. A side effect of the initiative will be the creation of new professionals in the field of restoration, cultural outreach and sustainable tourism giving special attention to gender equity. The Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher and the Terra Sancta Museum, pivotal elements of the Christian neighborhood, witnesses to histories and knowledge belonging to all humanity will thus be more understandable and accessible to all.
