Description
This project is proposed as a leader by Medici per i Diritti Umani (MEDU) in partnership with Caritas Développement Niger (CADEV), Apurimac ETS, Nexus Emilia Romagna and the Nigerian association Alternative Espaces Citoyens (AEC). The general objective of the initiative is to support Christian communities through the response to basic needs, the protection of rights, the promotion of socio-economic inclusion, the promotion of reconciliation and interreligious dialogue in Niger. The specific objective of the project is to strengthen the social and health protection and the socio-economic inclusion of the resident and migrant Christian population to promote peaceful coexistence in the Niamey region. The planned duration is 24 months. Among the various needs identified by the United Nations Plan 2023-2027 for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda in Niger and the Health and Social Development Plan 2022-2026 (PDSS) of Niger is to integrate health services with activities in support of socio-economic integration. This need is even more evident for minorities living in vulnerable and precarious conditions. In a country where 294,161 migrants were registered in 2019, of whom 218,261 were refugees mainly from countries with a relatively high Christian population (Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast) the need to improve access to basic health services and to social and economic inclusion between the migrant community and the local population is even more important. The project expects to achieve the following results: 1) Improve the access of the recipient population to basic health services and income generation activities in Niamey through the provision of a mobile clinic for primary medical care, prevention and health guidance and provision of medicines and health materials; training of health professionals; development of income generation activities; and training for the collection and analysis of health data. 2) Enhancing opportunities for social inclusion and peaceful coexistence between migrant communities and the local population through human rights training groups; awareness-raising events and the promulgation of issues relating to peaceful coexistence, social inclusion and the sharing of community resources; and cultural initiatives aimed at promoting issues of peace, democracy, security and interreligious dialogue. 44,524 direct beneficiaries are estimated, including: 1) 16,000 beneficiaries of the mobile clinic service; 2) 25,000 beneficiaries sensitised on issues of reproductive health, GBV and health rights; 3) 154 health care workers participating in reproductive health and DHIS2 training; 4) 400 women beneficiaries of IGA; 5) 770 beneficiaries trained to carry out informal and community educational activities, who have access to human rights education and who participate in cultural initiatives for civil coexistence; 5) 3045 beneficiaries informed via video, press / newsletter on the culture of peace and dialogue; 6) 800 beneficiaries of information desks. The involvement of local partners such as CADEV and AEC in the design and implementation of activities, together with the contribution of organizations such as Nexus and Apurimac with solid experiences of social inclusion in the field of international cooperation and the involvement of the Regional Directorate of Public Health of Niamey (DRSP), ensures institutional sustainability, technical, economic and social aspects of the project.
