Description
Ahead of the start of the winter season, the project aims to secure the roof and provide a protective cover to the Transfiguration Cathedral which was directly hit by a missile attack on 23 July 2023. The attack caused severe damage to part of its structure, as well as wall paintings, furnishings and collections in the impact area. The proposes that the protective covering be made up of self-supporting modular elements, to protect the building from rain and atmospheric agents, and at the same time allow the organization of the construction site on the ground for the urgent works required and to conduct it in a safe and secure environment, from detailed pathological documentation, stabilization and consolidation to conservation and then reconstruction. The project will be carried out by UNESCO in collaboration with the Italian Society for the Restoration and Conservation of Architecture (SIRA) and will last 12 months. The project objective will be achieved through a technical assistance action to design the roofing and to provide for its installation
