Description
The initiative is an earmarked contribution to ICRC for the implementation of the program called Too Big to Fail, which is part of the ICRC Appeal for Syria. The Too Big to Fail program aims to stabilize the operation of Syria's seven main water facilities through a series of urgent maintenance measures to be implemented sequentially over the period 2022-2026. In addition to the major seven water facilities, the program includes the repair of associated infrastructure, which allows the storage, pumping and distribution of water from the facilities to end users. The intervention strategy does not involve the reconstruction of the water facilities and associated infrastructure, but a preventive approach aimed at avoiding its collapse. In the protracted Syrian crisis, support for public water infrastructure prevents the humanitarian consequences created by the failure in supplying at least 50 liters per person per day of drinking water (WHO minimum consumption level to meet minimum health needs).
