Description
The EQuAS (Equity, Quality, Access to Health) project will be implemented by the Community of Sant'Egidio ACAP, in collaboration with four local partners operating in the Quelimane, Beira, and Maputo areas to promote social inclusion and advance the rights of people living with HIV in Mozambique: Associação para o Direito aos Tratamentos Sanitários e de Luta Contra a Sida, Associação para Promoção de Arte Urbana Maputo Street Art, Plataforma Inter-Religiosa de Comunicação (PIRCOM), and Progetto Mozambico Onlus. The project will last for 24 months and will operate in 7 healthcare centers, involving approximately 21,000 beneficiaries, with the aim of maximizing equity in access to integrated basic healthcare services for HIV in the catchment areas of 7 healthcare centers, especially for adolescents, girls, and their partners. Through EQuAS, the following outcomes are expected: - Training of 140 personnel working in the 7 identified healthcare centers in partnership with the local partner DREAM Associação on psychosocial support for people with HIV, differentiated HIV services, and case management for victims of violence, within an international and governmental framework aiming for overall improvement of HIV services and an inclusive approach to all categories. - HIV testing for 5,000 adolescents and young people aged 15-24 living in the Quelimane, Beira, and Maputo areas as part of a comprehensive 18-month campaign, involving local associations, institutions, and young people in its planning and implementation. This campaign will also involve influencers and mentors to reach as many young people as possible, both male and female. - Support for 3 healthcare centers in Maputo, Manga Chingussura (Beira), and Quelimane with specific psychosocial support activities (teen clubs, support groups for men, Keep in School activities for girls with and without HIV, differentiated ART services) benefiting approximately 14,000 people on ART. Expected changes thanks to the EQuAS project: - A diversified, non-stigmatizing, and non-discriminatory approach by healthcare staff for different vulnerable categories and key populations. - Increased involvement of young and adult males in healthcare services offered by three healthcare centers in Beira, Quelimane, and Maputo. - Easier access to healthcare for young girls and women in the catchment areas of the three healthcare centers in Beira, Quelimane, and Maputo through the involvement of young and adult males. - Maintenance and increase in retention of individuals on ART aged 0-24 who often face economic, social, and psychological barriers, facilitated by specially trained personnel. - Increased involvement of young people (both male and female) in planning HIV testing and awareness campaigns. - Increased awareness among the 65 girls who will undergo empowerment paths through professional training. - Increased knowledge of HIV status, overcoming cultural barriers to the disease among those aged 15-24 in the Quelimane, Beira, and Maputo areas.
