Description

The initiative aims to enhance the climate resilience of agro-silvo-forestry ecosystems, promote economic diversification, support the adaptive management of water resources, and reduce CO₂ emissions. It fosters sustainable agricultural practices, including conservation and organic farming, the use of traditional crop varieties, and the efficient management of water resources for human needs. The initiative encourages participatory approaches in territorial planning, linking socio-economic needs with the sustainable use of natural resources and integrating eco-friendly principles into urban development, in line with the National Physical Master Plan for the Lebanese Territory (NPMPLT), adopted in 2009 by the Government of Lebanon (2005). In the forestry sector, it addresses wildfire prevention, promotes sustainable forest management and biomass use, supports eco-compatible economic activities that enhance the value of forest ecosystems, and integrates climate change adaptation into forest management. The initiative also contributes to the adaptive management of water resources, the implementation of water conservation infrastructure, and the optimization of various water uses, including domestic, urban, and conservation purposes. Furthermore, it supports the role of protected areas as drivers of sustainable local development and promotes participatory processes for landscape and natural resource management. Finally, the initiative advances agricultural biodiversity and the adoption of land management systems and practices that foster biological diversity, in alignment with the National Biodiversity Report (NBR, 2019) and the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP, 2016). read more close
