Description

The project focuses on improving bone marrow donation data management and on supporting local immunogenetic transplant biology laboratories in bone marrow donor typing testing in South Africa. The project will allow improved testing, thus reducing transplant rejection risks, and will increase the compilation of bone marrow donors into the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) according to ethnic characteristics. Support will then be provided to the subsequent creation of the single South African register, which will be linked to hospitals that have soft organ transplant centers in Africa. In the short term it will be possible to have a pool of donors in the country, increasing the possibility for African population to find in a reduced time a compatible donor within the African continent. read more close
