Description

The proposed concessional financing program plays an important role in achieving the Caribbean Development Bank's mission of poverty reduction in CARICOM countries through sustainable, resilient and inclusive development. The financing will be used to support sustainable development projects focused on the environment/climate change and infrastructure, particularly in the areas of Agriculture; Energy; Integrated Water and Coastal Zone Management; Transportation; Social Housing; and Sanitation. The program plans to expand the pool of concessional financial resources available to the Caribbean Development Bank for CARICOM countries so that they can improve the socio-economic, technological and environmental resilience of their economies under the Green Climate Fund, the Adaptation Fund and the Climate Action Credit Line of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Agence Française de Développement..The Caribbean Development Bank is the borrower of the concessional loan It onlend the loan to CARICOM countries and it takes the political risk and the projects commercial risk The programme seeks to enhance the capacity of CARICOM countries to: a) Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote accelerated actions towards mitigation and adaptation to climate change. b) Promote sustainable agriculture, in particular with regards to adaptation to climate change consequences such as recurrent devastating hurricanes. c) Accelerate the expansion of protected areas for marine biodiversity and existing policies and treaties that encourage responsible use of ocean resources. d) Increase the renewable energy share of total final energy consumption and increasing access of the population to energy resources. e) Achieve universal access to basic sanitation services by 2030 and more efficient use and management of water resources. f) Accelerate physical rehabilitation of environmental and energy infrastructure damaged during by hurricane. read more close
