Description

The Initiative will be implemented in the Governorate of Deir Ez-Zor, where the population has been strongly affected by the consequences of hostilities, the collapse of the national systems responsible for the provision of basic services and the collapse of traditional economic and productive activities. Specifically, the Initiative addresses the following problems: (i) lack of sexual and reproductive health services and gender-based violence prevention and response services; (ii) lack of income-generating opportunities. The initiative has two specific Objectives: (i) Support rural livelihoods and local value chains; and (ii) Promote access to sexual and reproductive health services and gender-based violence prevention and response services. The intervention strategy involves the direct provision of services, activities aimed at generating income and actions aimed at changing norms, attitudes and behaviors linked to the social role of women, girls and persons with disabilities. The activities will be implemented at the Rural Development Center of Al-Mayadin City, which includes a Community Wellbeing Center managed by UNFPA, a Youth Economic Empowerment Center managed by UNDP and a Training Center managed by FAO. Planned activities are aimed at the same beneficiaries and the same communities: through interconnected activities, the initiative strengthens access to health and social protection services, increases family income, promotes economic recovery, and strengthens social cohesion. The Initiative is in line with the Syria Humanitarian Response Plan (the reference document of the international community also for actions that promote resilience and early recovery), as well as with the United Nations Strategic Framework for the Syrian Arab Republic (whose strategic objective n.2 aims to improve access 4 to social protection services, sustainable livelihoods and inclusive and equitable economic recovery). read more close
