Description
The action aims at supporting the Iraqi Government in protecting the population from the risks deriving from the extensive contamination from explosive devices and unexploded ordnances, thus allowing for humanitarian assistance, stabilization, and reconstruction activities. To this avail, UNMAS will: (i) provide technical assistance the local Government to correctly prioritize mine action activities, whilst making sure that such activities are realized in collaboration with local actors: (ii) carry out mine risk education activities, to raise awareness among the population that lives in contaminated areas of the risks and to make sure that they know how to address such risks when necessary; (iii) carry out demining activities aimed at granting access to essential infrastructures.
