Description

The project will establish a business incubator in Nairobi to support the start up or the scaling up of local SMEs (20 for each year of implementation).SMEs will be selected according to their potential

social and environmental impact and to their relevance to "Kenya Vision 2030" and Italian development cooperation priorities.

Women and youth entrepreneurship will be encouraged; each year, two enterprises from the Kibera slum will be selected. Furthermore, a philanthropic investment fund will finance the enterprises after the incubation period. The project will be considered a pilot initiative in the field of partnership between academia, the private sector and public institutions (triple helix) to promote entrepreneurship and job creation in Kenya with a possible broader scope to Eastern Africa and Sub- Saharan Africa. Therefore, a preliminary feasibility study and a constant M&E activity will be conducted by an independent research centre.
