Description

This initiative stems from a specific request made by the Government Authorities (Federal Ministry of Health and the
State Ministries of Health), and inscribes itself in the dynamics of this cooperation both to consolidate the good levels achieved and to accomplish further progress in support to the health system of the country. In particular the initiative aims to give continuity and synergy with the currently ongoing interventions in order to:
I. Increase the effectiveness of basic health and hospital services.
II. Strengthen the Sudanese health system focusing the effort in order to improve the efficiency of the health services (especially from the hospital point of view), addressing the intervention to the most vulnerable segments of the population.

The main goal of the initiative concerns the structural and functional improvement of second level hospital services through the fulfillment of physical construction/renovation interventions, supply of furniture, equipment and instrumentation, improved diagnostic capacities in the health facilities at referral state hospital level for the benefit of local residents and migrants in rural areas of Eastern Sudan (Kassala, Port Sudan, Gadaref). It also includes the training for doctors and nurses on specialized sectors which are still deficient regarding the non-communicable diseases and, finally, the improvement of the capacities concerning the hospital management (Capacity Building).
