Description
The initiative aims to improve the inclusion, quality of life and resilience of the people of Dollow, Qadho and Galkayo through the provision of sustainable water and sanitation services. These three cities, with a population of about 0.5 million people, have experienced a large influx of refugees due to insecure conditions, flooding, and drought: approximately 64,000 IDPs from 13 camps that have taken the already poor existing infrastructure beyond its capacity. Without access to adequate drinking water, proper sanitation and essential supplies, thousands of people, particularly children, are at high risk of waterborne and other infectious diseases. Reduced water availability, combined with inadequate operation and maintenance of facilities, and limited private sector regulation, has also resulted in high prices that the Initiative will seek to lower in favor of the most vulnerable.
