Description

The project is aimed at the structural and functional recovery of the historic former museum building in Leptis Magna to transform it into the operational headquarters of the country's first National Restoration School. The initiative addresses the urgent need to preserve Libya's cultural heritage, which is severely threatened by conflict, instability, and environmental degradation, while simultaneously creating educational and employment opportunities for the local population, including youth and women. The intervention is structured around two main and synergistic components. The first component, of an infrastructural nature, involves the conservative restoration of the building in accordance with international UNESCO principles, its functional adaptation to house classrooms, specialized laboratories and offices, and the provision of all necessary technical equipment and safety systems. The second component, focused on institutional capacity building, aims to strengthen the cultural partnership between Italy and Libya through awareness-raising activities and a high-profile international event, promoting the transfer of know-how and the creation of a professional network. The initiative contributes directly to the resilience of local communities, the creation of specialized technical skills in the cultural sector, and the promotion of lasting socio-economic development based on the valorization of cultural heritage as an engine for growth, social cohesion, and national identity. read more close
