Description
The United Nations (UN) global experience shows that the first 24 months after a peace agreement are critical because people in conflict-impacted areas expect to quickly see a ¨peace dividend¨, that brings back a sense of normalcy into their lives. In Ethiopia, however, more than a year has already passed into this period with no large scale recovery and reconstruction interventions underway. In accordance with the National Demobilization and Reintegration Programme (NDRP), the targeted number of ex-combatants (XCs)/beneficiaries are approximately 371,971 nationwide. The programme aims at assisting in demobilizing and reintegrating ex combatants of Tigray and other regions, offering support for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, providing mental health and psychosocial support and disability care, when necessary. The project is expected to deliver critical results for the early stages of DDR that will lay the foundation for longer-term peacebuilding and ensure urgent response to people at risk and those in need. It will also help build the capacity of national and regional institutions and of service providers in the targeted regions. This funding proposal aims to support Phase II demobilization and reintegration of 150,000 ex combatants/beneficiaries in 2026, including persons with disability (PWD) in Tigray and other regions—facilitating their reinsertion and reintegration back to civilian life.
