Description

The project is grounded in the recognition that economic growth and human capital development are deeply interconnected. In a country like Mozambique—marked by rapid demographic expansion and a predominantly young population—strengthening technical, vocational, and higher education systems is key to fostering decent employment and youth entrepreneurship, particularly in strategic sectors such as sustainable energy and industrial mechanics applied to agriculture and manufacturing. The project aims to modernize infrastructure and equipment, enhance the connection between training and labor market needs, and stimulate youth-led innovation and small enterprise creation. It also seeks to strengthen the capacity of local institutions in technological coordination and applied research, contributing to Mozambique’s digital and energy transitions. The overall goal is to promote decent, inclusive, and sustainable work by reinforcing Mozambique’s national system of technical-vocational and higher education, in alignment with SDG 8 (“Decent Work and Economic Growth”). The specific objective focuses on integrating technical skills, applied research, and innovation into the education system to support youth entrepreneurship and job creation in key productive sectors. Three main expected results guide the intervention: 1. Improved quality and relevance of technical and vocational education through the construction of a new Sustainable Energy Pavilion at ISDB, the modernization of mechanical workshops and equipment, and capacity building for teachers and trainers. 2. Enhanced internship and employment opportunities via the restructuring of ISDB’s Professional Integration Service, partnerships with the National Employment Institute (INEP) and private sector actors, and digitalization of career services and job placement systems. 3. Strengthened innovation ecosystem through the creation of an Innovation Hub at ISDB, training of researchers and technology mediators, and establishment of a national network for innovation and technology transfer involving universities, research centers, and tech hubs. Ultimately, the project aspires to build a dynamic and inclusive ecosystem of learning, innovation, and entrepreneurship that empowers Mozambican youth to shape the country’s sustainable economic future. read more close
