Description
The initiative "Promoting Healthcare Services for Dialysis Patients" aims to improve access to and the quality of healthcare services for nephrology patients in Kassala State, through the rehabilitation and expansion of the Dialysis Center located at the Kassala Health Citadel, along with the provision of biomedical equipment. The project is expected to directly benefit approximately 2.8 million people residing in Kassala State — including children, persons with disabilities, and displaced populations — as well as an estimated 11.3 million people from other states in Eastern Sudan and from the capital (Khartoum, Gedaref, and Red Sea), who rely on the Kassala center for specialized treatments. Once rehabilitated and fully operational, the new Dialysis Center will be able to accommodate and treat up to 550 patients per month, significantly contributing to reduced waiting times, improved quality of care, and better clinical management of chronic kidney diseases in the region. The project promotes gender equality and equitable access to services, emphasizing collaboration with local and international partners. It focuses on sustainability through capacity-building, the rehabilitation and expansion of existing infrastructure, and alignment with national priorities. The initiative aims to reduce morbidity and mortality, strengthen the resilience of the health system, and bridge humanitarian response and sustainable development, in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 5.
