Description
The initiative, lasting 24 months and with a total value of 400,000 euros, to be entrusted through a bilateral channel to Unioncamere, which will operate in partnership with BMTI, pursues the overall objective of “Supporting inclusive agri-food systems in line with the EU accession process.” The specific objective aims to “Improve the transparency, sustainability, and competitiveness of the olive and olive oil value chain in line with the EU acquis.” The direct beneficiaries are officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), officials of the Albanian chamber system, operators in the olive and olive oil sector and their associations, all of whom will benefit from dedicated training and capacity-building activities. Specific attention is paid to gender equity in accessing training and to the inclusion of women in supply chain development. The Ministry is the institutional partner and counterpart for project implementation. Within this framework, the initiative will provide technical assistance and training, organised into two components, on EU agricultural policies applicable to the olive oil sector and on tools useful for the development and transparency of the value chain. The first component provides technical and training support to MARD and to the Albanian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, to transfer knowledge on regulations, EU instruments, and associative forms such as Producer Organisations and CMO, in view of the country’s upcoming accession to the EU. The second component, dedicated to value chain development and transparency, aims to introduce the Italian chamber system model for market monitoring and for facilitating access for small and medium-sized enterprises, through training programmes designed to strengthen the skills of local institutions in collecting, analysing, and disseminating agri-food product prices, in order to improve negotiation and trade. Both components respond to the commitment of the Albanian institutions to equip themselves with tools and capacities that strengthen the sector’s competitiveness and foster the creation of a sustainable and resilient value chain, within the framework of Albania’s path toward accession to the European Union.
