Description

The project supports the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in environmental development and the transition to a green economy, with a focus on the expansion of the rehabilitation of the Boye Lake area in Jimma (Phase II). The initiative, financed with a concessional credit of 15 million euros (86% of the total cost) and a grant contribution of 2.5 million euros (14%), aims to promote urban sustainability, climate resilience and the valorisation of natural heritage. The intervention is aligned with Ethiopian national strategic plans, including the Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) and the Ten Years Development Plan, and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 15, 11 and 8). Activities include the ecological restoration of the lake, the creation of green infrastructure, the planting of indigenous trees and the development of sustainable recreational and tourism spaces. The grant component, with direct implementation, aims to improve water and soil resilience in the Lake Boye watershed through an integrated approach combining advanced technical interventions and community participation. The project actively involves local communities, with a particular focus on the inclusion of women, youth and vulnerable groups. The partnership with Sistema Italia enhances technical skills and innovative management models, while support for the sector budget strengthens local institutions.
