Description

The BIOTECHNET II project, building on the results of BIOTECHNET I, aims to improve the sustainability and use of previous results, strengthen scientific cooperation in East Africa, and enhance local scientific and industrial capacities. Main actions (ICGEB programmes): • Training: PhD and short-term fellowships in ICGEB laboratories; • SMART fellowships for South-South mobility. • The Collaborative Research Programme (CRP) provides funding to establish or upgrade laboratories in member countries and promote collaboration. • Meetings and courses: scientific dissemination and interaction between experts and young researchers. New project-specific lines: 1. Strategic projects to increase regional scientific autonomy, involving investments in infrastructure, equipment and advanced training. 2. Regional Collaboration and Empowerment involves the creation of a network of East African scientists, with a focus on women, and institutional cooperation, including joint projects, patents and regional agreements. Beneficiaries: • Direct: at least 60 scientists (40 fellows, including 12 women, and 20 senior scientists who will open their own laboratories), 120 researchers involved in training and networking, and targeted measures for women and at-risk researchers. • Institutions: at least 15 organisations will benefit from enhanced skills, improved facilities and expanded research networks. • Indirect beneficiaries include scientific communities and participating countries, which will gain human capital, reduced brain drain, increased research funding and infrastructure, and greater innovation potential adapted to local needs. read more close
