Description

The initiative is developed in the context of the priority areas of intervention held by the Italian Agency for Cooperation for Development in Bolivia, which aim to contribute to the institutional development for the management, recovery and restoration of the country's cultural heritage, supporting the local Ministry of Culture, Decolonization and Depatriarchalization. Specifically, the project aims to rehabilitate "Casa Agramont" in La Paz as a training platform for Bolivian technicians engaged in similar future activities. The initiative specifically aims to: i. Ensure the conservation of the building and prevent its loss, acquire an accurate digital survey of the entire complex, identifying parts that are collapsing, unstable or damaged, once the safety measures by the beneficiary have been carried out. ii. Conduct an on-site investigation campaign to complete the knowledge of the construction techniques and 7conservation characteristics of the artifact, including material properties and the structural assessment against static and seismic loadings. iii. Provide advice and support for the definition of a construction-ready executive project for the consolidation and conservative restoration of the Casa Agramonte, including consolidation works and the recovery of the raw earth structures, using techniques compatible with the historical nature of the property. iv. Establish best practices and draft guidelines for the seismic safety assessment of historic buildings, to be used as a reference for future restorations. v. Activate on-site training activities within the Rosa Agramonte school workshop, so that the survey activities and some of the work on the site become a tool for the professional training of Bolivian technicians and students. vi. Implement a training plan for local students and technicians, involving them in theoretical and practical diagnosis and design activities and providing them with the necessary skills for the structural restoration of historic buildings in seismic areas. The project aims to contribute, on a broader scale, to identifying methodologies and techniques for the recovery and conservative rehabilitation of Bolivia’s monumental building heritage. To make this action particularly effective, the project will operate on two levels: a) Application to a paradigmatic case study representative of the cultural and monumental heritage of the capital La Paz. b) Realization of a training and methodological plan based on diagnostic and design actions to be undertaken on the case study, which will serve as a paradigmatic example of an operating method. The tools to pursue this dual action consist of the study and subsequent implementation of an effective project, which also serves as a training platform for Bolivian technicians engaged in similar activities in the future.
