Description

The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation among the countries sharing the transboundary aquifer basin between Senegal, Mauritania, The Gambia, and Guinea, by promoting an equitable, sustainable, and coordinated management of groundwater resources. The project seeks to establish a shared information system that supports political decision-making with a solid technical and scientific foundation. It will develop common and harmonized indicators, predictive models, monitoring networks, and digital tools for data management, alongside the creation of a permanent technical unit. The initiative enhances institutional and technical capacity, fosters regional cooperation, and involves local communities and the research sector, contributing to peace, security, and climate resilience in the region. The project directly contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals).
