Description
This initiative aims to establish a model intervention for value chain development in Somalia's fisheries sector, with the potential for replication and expansion to other regions across the country. It supports Somalia's Blue Economy goals by engaging downstream actors in the fisheries value chain. Specifically, the project will directly assist the fishing community in Bossaso by providing access to advanced technical and technological support. Additionally, it will 5 collaborate with policymakers and development partners to identify, promote, and facilitate business, investment, and partnership opportunities within Somalia's Blue Economy. The overarching objective is to "Foster job creation and economic opportunities in Somalia's Blue Economy through inclusive and sustainable fisheries value chain development initiatives." UNIDO will implement the project in partnership with a selected fisheries sector cooperative, to be identified as the project's initial activity. In coordination with the donor and project stakeholders, UNIDO will also collaborate with Federpesca, the Italian National Federation of Fishing Enterprises, to promote Somalia's Blue Economy. This partnership will connect Somalia with potential collaborators in Italy, Europe, and the Mediterranean basin, fostering investment and supporting the sustainable development of Somalia's Blue Economy.
