Description

The initiative aims to support the modernization of statistical production processes at the National Institute of Statistics (INE) of Mozambique, enhancing its capacity to leverage alternative data sources beyond traditional surveys, as well as innovative technologies and methodologies for the production and dissemination of high-quality, more timely and disaggregated statistics. The activities include on-site technical assistance through joint technical work and specific training, as well as the exchange of experiences in Italy through study visits to learn best practices. The support will focus on aligning the IT infrastructure with the modernization requirements, adopting international standards to ensure data interoperability and sharing, and introducing advanced technologies such as machine learning and web scraping for data analysis. The initiative also aims to explore administrative and non-conventional data sources to complement traditional statistics, providing more comprehensive and up-to-date insights for the analysis of the country's social, economic, and demographic reality. In the medium term, the integration of data science and alternative sources will contribute to monitoring public policies and progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The availability of accurate data will promote governmental transparency and facilitate policy evaluation. The initiative aligns with the Strategic Plan for the National Statistical System (SEN) of Mozambique 2025-2029, currently under approval, directly contributing to achieving its strategic objectives and related outcomes. The intervention supports the priorities of the Italy-Mozambique Multiannual Indicative Plan 2022-2026 and the European Union's actions in governance, peace, and a just society. It is also consistent with the Italian Development Cooperation's commitment to ICT, digitalization, and professional training, in line with the Mattei Plan for Africa. read more close
